Keke Palmer says it’s time for a remake of classic movie industry satire Hollywood Shuffle

Keke Palmer believes the climate is right for a Hollywood Shuffle remake

In 1987 director Robert Townsend directed, produced, and starred in Hollywood Shuffle, a film which satirized the experiences black actors have in Hollywood. The film follows an actor named Bobby Taylor, played by Townsend, who is trying to make it in Hollywood as a series actor, but becomes frustrated with stereotypical roles the industry has for black actors.

(It's a great movie that you can find on Prime Video, Pluto, or YouTube, if you haven't seen it.)

Keke Palmer, an Emmy-award winning actress known for her roles in Hustlers and Nope, believes the time is right to revisit the film. “When we were talking about things that we would want to see done again, I would want to see Hollywood Shuffle redone,” Keke Palmer announced during a recent THR Comedy Actor Roundtable. “You remember the old Robert Townsend and Keenan Wayans movie where they talked about satire, like what you just said. Where they’ll say on the thing, ‘A Eddie Murphy type.’ And it’s like, ‘But I don’t even do what Eddie do. This is not my lane.’ So, just to your point where people being able to acknowledge the nuances of what people do.”

Maybe the script could be rewritten for Keke so the remake could focus on the experiences of a black woman this time around. I would certainly buy a ticket to see that movie.
