A new Hunger Games book (and movie) is coming out centered on Woody Harrelson's Haymitch - and it already has a release date!

Hunger Games' Haywitch Abernathy is going to make sure they remember him as he gets his own movie

The odds are once again in our favor, as a new Hunger Games movie has been announced.

Set 24 years before the events of the original 2012 film The Hunger Games, The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping is coming in 2026. This sixth Hunger Games movie is set 24 years before the events of the first film, starting on the morning of the reaping of the 50h Hunger Games, also known as the Second Quarter Quell.

That's important, as it's been long established in the original Hunger Games books and movies that Haymitch Abernathy (played by Woody Harrelson in the original movie series) was the winner of the 50th Hunger Games.

And, no: this isn't an original movie not based on Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games book series. How can that be, you might be wondering? Well, Scholastic has announced Collins is writing a fifth Hunger Games book also titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping, which the movie will be based on.

When is The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaper movie release date?

The sixth Hunger Games film is coming sooner than you think:

The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaper is being released November 20, 2026. It's only competition for that week this far out is an as-yet-untitled Warner Bros./New Line Cinema movie.

When is The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaper book release date?

Glory be, Suzanne Collins' The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping will be published March 18, 2025.

Here's how to watch all the Hunger Games movies in order.
