I Know What You Did Last Summer final girl Jennifer Love Hewitt didn't fully watch through the movies until earlier this year

Hewitt, who returns as Julie James in the I Know What You Did Last Summer reboot, is so "terrified" of horror movies, she found excuses to leave her own film premieres when the tension got too high

Jennifer Love Hewitt isn't much of a scary movie fan. Despite the fact that she stars as iconic final girl Julie James in the I Know What You Did Last Summer franchise (the latest entry of which is in theaters soon), the Ghost Whisperer actor says she's "terrified" of the genre. So terrified, in fact, that she hadn't watched the movies she's starred in until this year.

Not the whole way through, at least.

Hewitt made the confession in a piece she penned for the latest issue of Fangoria magazine, released summer of 2025. "My first time watching [the original 1997] I Know What You Did Last Summer and [1998 sequel] I Still Know What You Did Last Summer all the way through," writes the franchise star, "Was six months ago with my children."

A little late to the party, maybe, especially since Hewitt was the guest of honor, but the experience of watching it with her kids was a good one. "I loved them!" she writes enthusiastically, and apparently so do her kids.

Now, let's address a question you might have. That is, wasn't Jennifer Love Hewitt at the premieres of these films? How could she be at the screening of the movies and not have seen them in their entirety? Well, she addressed that very thing.

"Even at the premieres," says Hewitt, "I felt like, 'I don't want to be a part of this. Where's the popcorn?'"

In other words, if you happen to be at the premiere of the I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025 reboot and notice a shadowy figure heading to the exit, be very polite. It might just be the face of the franchise.

I Know What You Did Last Summer slashes into theaters July 18.
