When John Wick comes back for Chapter 5, expect an all-new story that'll make you swear, teases producer
Whatever John Wick Chapter 5 is, it'll be something new that starts in spin-off material, says producer/director Chad Stahelski

The soon-to-come From the World of John Wick: Ballerina takes a step backwards in the timeline of the franchise, but producer Chad Stahelski is already promising that when John Wick returns for Chapter 5 in his own story, fans should be expecting something different from what they’ve already seen.
Sure, Keanu Reeves returns for a cameo in Ballerina, but that movie is set sometime between 2019’s Chapter 3 - Parabellum and 2023’s Chapter 4, and intentionally leaves the ending of Chapter 4 untouched. That’s important, considering that Chapter 4 ends by at least suggesting that John Wick is dead… although, of course, we don’t see a body. Technically, the last the audience sees of him is when he collapses from the fatal wound he received during his duel with Caine, before an epilogue reveals his gravestone, but, still: like that couldn’t be a fake-out to let him live the rest of his days in peace before something dramatic comes to drag him back into the action life…!
“The saga of John Wick was pretty wrapped up. So the only way to do a 5 is to have a new story that involves John Wick,” Stahelski told Empire. “It’s not a continuation, with the High Table. John dealt with his grief. It will be really different, and everybody [will] see the trailer and go, ‘Holy fuck... I gotta see that.’”
Whatever this new story ends up being, it’ll get its start earlier than John Wick 5, it turns out.
“The John Wick TV show and the animation are big priorities,” Stahelski continued, referencing the in-the-works Under the High Table live-action series and the animated prequel that has him wanting to make anime full time. “Our idea is to try some things and explore some threads and use those two properties to catapult us forward into the ideas for John 5.”
Consider this the benefits of having an expanded universe… and perhaps a sign that elements from From the World of John Wick: Ballerina might end up having greater significance to the larger franchise at some point in the future, too.
From the World of John Wick: Ballerina opens June 6.
