Jurassic World Rebirth's latest monster-dinosaur has been described as if the Xenomorph had sex with the Rancor from Star Wars and we're weirdly intrigued
We always wondered what the unholy offspring of H.R. Giger and the Rancor would look like and, finally, Jurassic World Rebirth will show us

One thing that the Jurassic World series has become known for is the increasingly outlandish designs for their dinosaurs. Every time a new movie comes out, it seems the scientists at InGen have tinkered further with that which man was not meant to tinker with. Jurassic World Rebirth, they wheel out a six-armed monstrosity that is like an H.R. Giger creation banged Jabba’s pet Rancor from Return of the Jedi.
Yes, that is a real sentence that we had to type and now you have to live with it as well. The description comes from Jurassic World Rebirth director Gareth Edwards, who told Empire magazine that the newest dinosaur was truly the stuff that only the most bizarre fan-artists could dream up. The Distorus Rex (or D-Rex) is shown in the opening moments of the film but, in true horror fashion, it isn’t shown in its entirety until much later.
“It’s kind of like if the T-Rex was designed by H.R.Giger,” Edwards explained in a recent issue of Empire to promote Jurassic World Rebirth. “And then that whole thing had sex with a Rancor (from Return of the Jedi). “It’s a design that I was really happy with. I’d like to buy the toy of it when it comes out.”
We’d argue that it sounds like the series is getting further and further from its roots as it becomes more of a horror film, but we’d be lying if we said this doesn’t sound like a very cool design. We’ve always wondered what it would look like if the Alien and Rancor had a mutant dinosaur baby – and we’re sure you have as well.
The D-Rex stomps into cinemas as Jurassic World Rebirth releases on July 2, 2025.
