As long as you're not, like, a Scooby-Doo villain or something, I think we can all agree that most children are wonderful. However, the teaser for Lee Cronin's The Mummy film is here to make the case for why some kids are more terrifying than they are bundles of joy - especially when they reanimate in a sarcophagus.
If you haven't been in the loop, Lee Cronin, the Irish writer-director best known for making Evil Dead Rise has written and directed a Mummy movie for Blumhouse and James Wan's production company, Atomic Monster. This film is not to be confused with the other Mummy reboot that's happening at Universal Pictures, with Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz returning to reprise their roles. As such, this particular Mummy film has been retitled Lee Cronin's The Mummy, which works for me. Take a look at the teaser below.
The synopsis for the film is as follows: "The young daughter of a journalist disappears into the desert without a trace—eight years later, the broken family is shocked when she is returned to them, as what should be a joyful reunion turns into a living nightmare." Warner Bros., which is distributing the film in the theaters, describes it as "an audacious and twisted retelling," presumably of the 1923 Mummy film.
In case you're not familiar, Lee Cronin is a master of telling stories about families digging up things that should remain buried. Case in point: the guy's first film is called The Hole in the Ground. Lee Cronin's The Mummy will star fellow Irishman Jack Reynor (who you might know as the bear guy from Midsommar), Laia Costa, May Calamawy, Natalie Grace, and Veronica Falcón. Cronin proved in Evil Dead Rise that he's got a particularly good eye for monstrous physical transformations, and in this case, it's the mummy's gross, curled fingernails that are revealed in the sarcophagus that will haunt my nightmares for the next week. Happy hunting!
Lee Cronin's The Mummy will be out April 17, 2026.
