Disney reveals Moana 2's big bad villain - and she's the "storm of all storms"

The Disney animated sequel washes up this Thanksgiving

Moana’s family is growing even larger in the follow-up to the beloved animated 2016 comedy, with the latest trailer for Moana 2 wasting no time in introducing Moana’s little sister, Simea, who proves to be as central to the action as you might expect - but she’s far from the only new character fans can expect.

Featuring the return of both Auliʻi Cravalho and the Rock (as Moana and Maui, respectively), the new feature also brings back Rachel House as Tala, Temuera Morrison as Moana’s father Chief Tut, and Nicole Scherzinger as her mother, Sina. They’ll be joined by Hualālai Chung, David Fane and Rose Matafeo as Moana’s new crew members Moni, Kele and Loto, as well as Awhimai Fraser as the mysterious and villainous Matangi, and Gerard Ramsey as Moana’s ancestor, Tautai Vasa. The new feature includes music by an all-star line-up: Grammy winners Abigail Barlow and Emily Bear, Grammy nominee Opetaia Foa‘i, and three-time Grammy winner Mark Mancina.

But who — or what — is the threat in this latest movie? At D23 Expo 2024 where the trailer was debuted, Cravalho teased the crowd by promising, “wait ’til you see the villain we have in this one. It is the storm of all storms.” Check out the 1:19 in the trailer to see just what that might look like.

Moana 2 swims into theaters November 27. Watch the trailer for the new feature below.
