When it comes to the follow-up to 2023’s hit video game adaptation Five Nights at Freddy’s, there’s only one direction to: more. Director Emma Tammi is promising that the second installment will have more of what fans loved in the first movie… including many, many more animatronics to terrorize the audience. Three times as many, in fact.
“All the set pieces were bigger,” Tammi told the Hall H crowd during the Five Nights at Freddy’s 2 panel at San Diego Comic-Con 2025 when asked about what attracted her to return for the sequel. “There’s more than three times the animatronics than there were in the first movie — the stakes just felt so escalated and exciting. There’s so much more action in this one, you guys, with the animatronics. That was incredibly exciting.”
While the panelists were purposefully keeping much of the new movie under wraps for awhile longer — Tammi and executive producer Jason Blum would huddle with the movie’s lead Josh Hutcherson at times to discuss whether or not certain details could be revealed -- two ‘new’ (but familiar to fans of the franchise) animatronics appearing in the second movie were confirmed during the panel: Withered Bonnie and Mangle, the latter being named by Hutcherson as his favorite animatronic in the movie.
“What the creators and designers of that brought to life, with Mangle, I don’t know. It’s such another level of puppeteering and complicated… everything,” he said.
And as if those two weren’t enough of a reveal for longterm fans, the panel ended with the reveal of new footage that showed new characters exploring an abandoned Fazbear’s pizzeria where one more character was heavily teased: the Puppet.
Five Night’s at Freddy’s 2 is set for release December 5, 2025.
