Before The Marvels, Nia DaCosta pitched Marvel a Galactus movie that would've reset the MCU

"I'm really, really into Galactus," says the Candyman and 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple director, "That's my guy."

Spoilers for The Fantastic Four: First Steps follow.

No offense to The Void and Red Hulk, but it seems like the next really huge villain to shake up the Marvel Cinematic Universe will be Robert Downey Jr.'s Victor Von Doom. As I'm sure you're aware, however, that post-Thanos Big Bad was originally going to be Kang the Conqueror, so you can see that the MCU's hordes of creators had differing opinions on who should've gotten the gig. And according to one particularly celebrated MCU filmmaker - the job really should've gone to Fantastic Four's (seemingly) one-off baddie: Galactus.

That filmmaker is none other than Nia DaCosta, the mind behind horror's recent standouts Candyman and 28 Years Later: The Bone Tempe. Admittedly, her foray into the MCU, The Marvels, was less well-received, and as she recently told Empire Magazine, that wasn't even her first idea for the shared universe.

"I pitched Kevin [Feige] so many things," DaCosta explained, "But I'm really, really into Galactus. That's my guy. He's basically a tragic Greek hero. I had this whole thing that was, 'Kevin, listen, here's the thing, here's how you're gonna reset the whole MCU. You use Galactus. Out of the Big Bang comes Galactus!' I had this whole thing. It was really fun. It would have been a cool movie."

I'll tell you this much - I'll been very, very early in line to buy a ticket to that movie if it ever happens. But will it? The odds don't look great - DaCosta told Deadline that, after her experience on The Marvels, she needed to make something that bucked the studio system, resulting in 2025's Hedda. Plus, the end of Galactus's official introduction into the MCU, The Fantastic Four: First Steps, saw Galactus being teleported far, far away from Earth, and all of its Mightiest Heroes.

But hey, you never know. If Dr. Doom doesn't work out post-Avengers: Doomsday, at least Marvel Studios has one titan of filmmaking (and her favorite world-devourer) as another option.

Avengers: Doomsday comes to theaters December 18; The Fantastic Four: First Steps is available to stream on Disney+ now.
