The next Avengers movie in theaters won't be Avengers: Doomsday

It's time to party like The Before Times, because Avengers: Endgame will hit theaters in 2026

Some people long for the way the world was in 2019, while others long for the day that they'll next see Lewis Pullman as The Sentry (me). And not surprisingly, nostalgia is set to win out this time. Avengers: Endgame will be smashing into theaters once again in September of 2026, ahead of the release of Avengers: Doomsday in December 2026.

Announced by Marvel, Avengers: Endgame will be re-released theatrically on September 25, 2026. And unlike the last time the film was re-released (June of 2019), there won't be any additional footage screened in the re-release. Instead, it's likely that Marvel Studios would like us all to remember the emotions we felt while watching Endgame, and bring that energy (and our butts) into theaters when Avengers: Doomsday drops on December 18, 2026... oh, and maybe remind fans of certain bits of lore that Doomsday might reference three months later.

Will it work? Obviously, we won't know. The Fantastic Four: First Steps, Thunderbolts*, and Captain America: Brave New World all underperformed at the box office this year. As the site's resident Thunderbolts* fan, I'll admit that I legitimately have no idea if I really want to see Avengers: Doomsday and go through all that just so I can see how Bob Reynolds is doing without The Void.

For all the "we're so divided" rhetoric that was flung around at the tail end of the 2010s, Avengers: Endgame did represent a time when a good chunk of humanity truly was united in our desire to see Thanos eat it. But now? This Doctor Doom fella? I don't know man, I feel more like Bruce Banner on Sakaar in Thor: Ragnarok when he told Thor that he didn't want to fight his sister Hela ("That's a family thing"). However, if Doomsday is 90 straight minutes of Bucky and Bob unloading the dishwasher or something, sans green screen, count me in.

Consider this a meta post-credits scene for Marvel fans - the four key articles you need to read next to continue the thrills:
