Everyone on the set of Mission: Impossible movies is in a state of fear, except for Tom Cruise, obviously. But when you think about it, given the caliber of actors featured in the Mission: Impossible franchise, you'd think there'd be more fearless thespians there. Certainly, you wouldn't expect an acting veteran like Mark Gatiss to be afraid, surely?
Well, you'd be wrong! Because Mark Gatiss revealed on the Half the Picture podcast that his role in 2023's Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning had him feeling nervous on set. But as Gatiss quickly deduced, he wasn't the only one feeling that way.
"I was so scared that the script was very late and it was all technobabble. It's really hard to learn. I remember I learned it like word pictures because some of it was so [blows a raspberry]," Gatiss began.
He continued, "Anyway, you arrive, and it's like Bond, a vast machine, but they couldn't have been more delightful and friendly. And then I saw Indira Varma across the room, and neither of us knew we were in it. And she looked at me and went, 'Oh thank god.' And we kind of clung to each other. And we were so in awe of the other American actors who were like blue steel, American intensity. And then within 24 hours you realize, they’re shitting themselves as well. And then you sort of go, 'Is anyone here not shitting themselves? Oh, it’s Tom [Cruise].'"
To be completely honest, if I saw Tom Cruise visibly nervous, I too would get nervous. And I wonder if anyone else on the set of the Mission: Impossible films also feels that way.
