The KPop Demon Hunters writers originally had a bigger story for Celine (and we may see it in the future)

KPop Demon Hunters actress Arden Cho originally auditioned for Celine, and she was told backstory details that didn’t make it into the movie

HUNTR/X is awesome, sure, but I really want to know what the deal with Celine is.

We only get to spend a little bit of time with the retired demon hunter, pop star, and current stand-in maternal figure to Rumi in Netflix’s KPop Demon Hunters, and what we learn has piqued my curiosity. We learned that she was a hunter and KPop idol in her own right as part of the Sunlight Sisters - but that just makes me wonder about her time in the spotlight, what kind of hunter she was, and what her own musical stylings sounded like. True, she didn’t always give the best advice to Rumi, but Celine has an interesting backstory, and I would love to see more of it.

It turns out that Sony Pictures Animation originally had a bigger story for Celine, but it just didn’t make it into the final film. Arden Cho, who originally auditioned for Celine before getting the role of Rumi, recently gave fans the scoop.

“I remember auditioning for Celine and I was like, ‘Ah, this is cool. KPop Demon Hunters,’" Cho said during a panel at Megacon 2026. “At that time, I actually feel like I got a little more information that didn’t end up in the movie. Some of, like, Celine’s backstory - because when I auditioned for Celine, it had some of the stuff, which maybe we’ll see one day, maybe we won’t.”

Arden Cho’s comment about maybe seeing it one day gives me hope. After all, KPop Demon Hunters was certainly a big enough hit to warrant sequels and spinoffs - a second movie is already in the works! - so maybe we’ll get a Celine prequel one day.
