Bradley Cooper is reportedly in as writer and director of the Ocean's 11 prequel film, with Margot Robbie still attached to star.

The Ocean’s 11 prequel that has long been stuck in development hit another snag recently as Lee Isaac Chung stepped back as director. Now, it seems that Warner Bros. wants to bring Guardians of the Galaxy star Bradley Cooper on board to write and direct the Margot Robbie-led project, and he could also be joining an already star-studded cast before the film finally starts production.

When Lee Isaac Chung stepped down as director of the Ocean’s 11 prequel, which still doesn’t have an official title, it seemed like a huge blow to the film’s prospects. Shooting had been slated to begin later in 2026. Losing its director should make it difficult to begin production, but Warner Bros. has worked quickly to reportedly secure Bradley Cooper to both write and direct the film.

Neither Warner Bros. nor Cooper has confirmed this development, potentially because they want to clarify if he would also star in the movie. That would round out a cast that already includes Barbie star Margot Robbie and will likely have more big names attached, judging by the franchise it is involved in. Bradley Cooper has experience being both behind and in front of the camera, having earned multiple Oscar nominations as writer, director, and actor for 2019’s A Star is Born.

If Bradley Cooper is locked in to write and direct the Ocean’s 11 prequel, it feels likely that he’ll also be part of the cast, considering his considerable star power at the moment. However, it may take some time before any deal is finalized and made public.
