Chris Hansen buys adtime before screenings of Primetime, the movie about Chris Hansen
Primetime dramatizes Hansen's history on To Catch a Predator - a story that arguably portrays the newscaster in a less than positive light

Chris Hansen is going on the offense. The newscaster, who made his name on the Dateline NBC segment To Catch a Predator, is the subject of the upcoming film Primetime, in which he will be portrayed by Bruce Wayne himself, Robert Pattinson. The film dramatizes Hansen's time seeking out men who solicit minors for sex, and could be seen as portraying him in a negative light. So what is Hansen doing?
He's taking out ads ahead of the film's screenings.
This surprising turnaround comes from The Hollywood Reporter. THR reported almost exactly a month before the Lance Oppenheim film comes into theaters that Hansen's promotion of his TruBlu network, the current home for Hansen's To Catch a Predator-esque television, will accompany every screening of the Pattinson dramatization of his earlier career. Previously, Hansen had continued his sex crime-centric programming on Takedown with Chris Hansen.
"There are more platforms than ever before where this disturbing crime is being committed," Hansen is reported to say in the ad. "Join us undercover every day on my streaming network, TruBlu." The video is said to then direct viewers to TruBlu via a QR code that appears on the screen, however, THR reports this wasn't originally the intended ending of the ad.
Before heading to theaters, Hansen's TruBlu promotion is said to have ended with a line calling the film "a Hollywood fantasy version," of his actual time on Dateline, but the line was reportedly removed over fears of retaliation from A24. As of this writing, the TruBlu ad is online without any reference to the veracity of the Pattinson-starring film.
Primetime comes to theaters September 25.
