Cary Elwes played an adventurous farmhand named Westley in The Princess Bride. He also played a tortured physician named Dr. Gordon in Saw.
It’s two very different roles in two very different films. However, Elwes has been approached by fans who try to tie the two projects together. Some of them note that both films contain torture, but the concept still confuses Elwes.
“Yes, there are two torture scenes. That’s not similar, but they do torture in both of those films. That’s the crossover,” Elwes says during a panel at Tampa Bay Comic Convention.
“Sometimes I see tattoos. I do meet crossover fans from Princess Bride and Saw. And some have Westley on one arm, and others have Doctor Gordon being tortured on another, and I just feel bad for these folks who identify with torture so much, but I guess that works for some people. I’m grateful, I need to clarify that.”
It does make me wonder how Westley would fare against Jigsaw. Now that would be a killer bedtime story.
