In 1987 director Mel Brooks and MGM Studios released Spaceballs, a spoof of the Star Wars franchise. If you’re a fan of Star Wars and comedy, don’t sleep on Spaceballs, because it’s probably the best Star Wars parody that’s ever been released.
A sequel, Spaceballs II, is currently in production with a projected 2027 release date. Little is known about the upcoming comedy film, but one Star Wars actor wants to get in on the fun.
“[My phone] hasn’t rung yet, so I have to come here and just say it,” Finn actor John Boyega says during a panel at Dragon Con. “So, they could pick up the phone and give me a call. Let me make Spaceballs legit.”
Boyega has a point. Getting one of the leads from the Star Wars sequel trilogy to star in the Spaceballs sequel would help make the parody legit. Plus, I would love to see Finn go up against Dark Helmet.
Amazon MGM Studios, don’t sleep on this offer.
