What's Daniel Destin Cretton working on after Spider-Man: Brand New Day? Naruto, with a side of Beef (star)

Beef and Riverdale star Charles Melton is in talks to join Cretton's live-action Naruto adaptation as Kakashi Hatake

If I were the director of an absolute cash machine like Spider-Man: Brand New Day, you'd probably never hear from me again - I'd be too busy counting my money and collecting space-themed LEGO sets. But much to the benefit of the entertainment world, Brand New Day's actual director, Destin Daniel Cretton, is a more ambitious person than I, and is already heading into what promises to be another giant project.

That is, the Lionsgate live-action adaptation of Naruto.

The Hollywood Reporter recently wrote about Cretton's upcoming production, which just announced a major casting decision. According to the outlet, Riverdale and Beef star Charles Melton is circling the role of Kakashi Hatake. If you're familiar with Masashi Kishimoto's Naruto manga or the world-famous anime that it inspired, you know that Kakashi is a sort-of Obi Wan to Naruto's Luke Skywalker, a mentor and trainer recognizable for his shock white hair, mostly masked face, and distinctive eye-scar.

It's an exciting moment for Naruto fans, but let's not step too far away from the MCU of it all just yet. Outside of this official report, there are unofficial rumors swirling around the internet that there's a role waiting for Melton in the Marvel Cinematic Universe's upcoming introduction of the X-Men. When asked about it, Melton's Beef costar (and former X-Men baddie/current Moon Knight) Oscar Isaac told ExtraTV that Melton would be a great fit for Marvel's Mutants.

"I already see him as kind of a mutant superhero," Isaac said, "It feels like that's a perfect thing for him."

We'll be watching that IMDb page with interest, reader.
