Street Fighter reboot taps Lucy Liu's daughter from 2024's Steven Soderberg movie Presence to play Chun-Li
Callina Liang will be stepping into Ming-Na Wen's iconic space buns as Chun-Li in the new Street Fighter movie

How do you recast an icon like Ming-Na Wen, who played the equally iconic Chun-Li in 1992’s Street Fighter? You find someone who can hold their own on the same set as Lucy Liu, which is what the producers of the upcoming Street Fighter remake have done. Callina Liang has reportedly been cast as Chun-Li in the new Street Fighter movie.
Liang is best known for her role as Chloe in Presence, where she plays Lucy Liu’s daughter as they settle into their new, seemingly haunted house. It is a tense thriller that we don’t want to spoil but it definitely does not go the way you expect. This will be a big change from that relatively small-budget film to the world of blockbuster video game adaptations.
Not only is Street Fighter one of the most popular game series of all time, with more than 50 million copies sold over the nearly 40 years since its debut, but Chun-Li remains one of the most iconic characters in the series. She was played by Ming-Na Wen in the original Street Fighter movie, which remains one of the most fun video game adaptations of all time. It isn’t the best movie by a long shot, but everyone on set seems to be having a great time at least.
There is no release date for Street Fighter as the movie is still in pre-production. There haven’t been any plot details released, but we do know that Jason Momoa has been cast in the movie as well. Who he is playing is still unknown, but we would guess the green-skinned Blanka.
