Jim Carrey wants to be the dad of tomorrow in Jetsons reboot from director Colin Trevorrow

Warner Bros.' Jetsons reboot has already found its helmer in Jurassic World Dominion director Colin Trevorrow - is it about to find its George Jetson in Sonic the Hedgehog star Carrey?

If you think about it, Sonic the Hedgehog villain Dr. Robotnik is kind of a "man of the future." His gear, his brilliance, his facial hair - all ahead of their time, right? The only thing is, the kind of future Robotnik would want isn't exactly what would be bet for the rest of the world - which is perhaps why actor Jim Carrey is setting his sights on a more positive time-warped role model.

That is, George Jetson, head of the titular Jetson family.

Deadline is reporting that Carrey is eyeing the live-action role of famous cartoon dad George in the upcoming Jetson reboot from Warner Bros. If he would get the role, Carrey would be joining Jurassic World Dominion's Colin Trevorrow, who is already confirmed to be in the director chair, and The Idol scribe Joe Epstein on script duties. Unknown at the time of the story's release is how close the team would stick to the original Hannah-Barbera Jetsons cartoon, which imagined a leisurely new century inspired by 1960s futurism.

Also unknown at this stage are possible casting choices for the rest of the Jetson clan - that is, George's wife Jane, daughter Judy, son Elroy, and robotic maid Rosie. Mr. Spacely, George's grouchy boss, would also likely feature in the script and, honestly, could be another role Carrey could take over if he doesn't mind pulling double-duty like in Sonic the Hedgehog 3.

The original Jetsons cartoon is streaming now on HBO Max.
