Brendan Fraser knows exactly why The Mummy 4 is happening (Spoilers: the fans wouldn't stop asking for it)
"We're getting the band back together," Brendan Fraser explains, knowing that it is something fans have been desperate for for nearly 20 years.

When the first movie came out in 1999, The Mummy made star Brendan Fraser an international star. However, it has been nearly 20 years since Fraser was on the big screen as Rick O’Connell, and even longer since he was opposite Rachel Weisz, who didn’t return for 2008’s The Tomb of the Dragon Emperor. However, Brendan Fraser knows that for The Mummy 4, fans would accept nothing less than the original cast getting back together.
During an appearance on The Tonight Show, Brendan Fraser talked about his return to action films, saying that he was doing his best “to get this 57-year-old gear into shape” for the long-awaited sequel. The actor, who has become an awards darling in recent years thanks to performances in The Whale and The Rental Family, says he knows that fans would only be excited for him to return as Rick O’Connell if Rachel Weisz were back as Evie and John Hannah came back as Jonathan.
“We’re gonna get the band back together,” he explained. “The only way to do it. So, we are going to give audiences what they have been bothering all of us for, for the last twenty-whatever years.”
The Mummy 4 was announced earlier this year and has a release date of 2027, making it 19 years since the last Mummy movie was released. The actor admits that he wasn’t sure the new film would ever get made. “I was hopeful for a long while, and then I was like, ‘I don’t know if they are.’ Then other ‘Mummy’ movies got made, but listen, what we’re gonna do is saddle back up, go back to the locations… I should probably stop talking like this, because I don’t want to give everything away.”
The Mummy 4 will be released October 15, 2027.
