Robert Pattinson will never escape from the sparkles. It doesn’t matter what roles the actor takes; everyone always brings up the sparkles. The world will never let him forget that he played Edward Cullen in the Twilight franchise. Pattinson has plenty to be proud of, because his role in Twilight made him a household name, and the films are fondly remembered by fans.
But people can’t let go of the sparkle jokes. Even when he was cast as Batman, headline writers couldn’t help but bring up the fact that his other famous role was a sparkling vampire.
This makes me wonder, how did Pattinson feel about Edward Cullen’s sparkles? Thanks to Emerald City Comic Con, we have an answer. During a Twilight spotlight panel, Pattinson’s co-star Jackson Rathbone revealed the actor’s true feeling on the sparkles.
“They would do all the Twilight sparkle testing, so every once in a while you would see Rob [Pattinson] come out of the makeup trailer completely pissed off and angry. Half his face is sparking super hard, the other half is a little sparkle. It’s like, ‘Mate, what’s going on,’” Rathbone said.
Rathbone then imitated Pattinson murmuring in annoyance, which caused the packed auditorium to erupt in laughter. “It was fun. We had fun,” Rathbone continued.
According to Rathbone, the cast and crew would keep an eye on the weather, because that would determine just how sparkly a scene would be. “It went from being rainy day to bright sunny day, which is actually even worse, because if it’s sunny they’ve got to make us sparkle. It was one of those things where the sun would come out, and we’d be like, ‘Yay!’ Except for production, ‘That’s screwing us even more!’”
It may have annoyed Pattinson during filming, but I hope he can look back and smile. If something can make an auditorium of convention attendees laugh, then it can’t be that bad.
