The world premiere of the Wicked sequel is going to be very noticeably missing someone. Due to an issue with her plane, Ariana Grande has announced that she will not be able to attend the Wicked: For Good premiere that's being held November 4 in São Paulo, Brazil.
The news comes from Variety's were reporting on a message that Grande, who will reprise her role as Glinda in the musical sequel/Wizard of Oz update, shared to her Instagram story.
"Brazil, I can’t believe this is happening," writes the singer-turned-Oscar-nom, "And I am beyond devastated to be sending this message. A few hours ago, my team and I had to deplane our flight, as they had to do maintenance on the plane due to a safety issue and it will not be taking off until 1 a.m. tomorrow."
"My team and Universal have tried every single thing possible to fix this," continued Grande in the story, "We’ve searched every other flight, overnight, early morning, connecting flights, commercial and also private options and absolutely nothing was available or possible that would get us there in time. Even in attempting a private option, there is a permit necessary in order to fly from here that takes time to attain."
While the missed premiere is no doubt heartbreaking for grande, who has spent two years' worth of press tours proving her love for both the film and her costars, Universal will be holding other premieres for the film before it officially opens in US theaters - one in Paris on November 7, one in London November 10, and one in Singapore November 13. And even at the world premiere which Grande will be missing, the actor has found a way to be present in spirit, if not in person.
"Please shower my incredible castmates with all of the love that I wish I could be showering you with," Grande wrote to her many fans, "And have the most beautiful celebration."
Wicked: For Good flies into US theaters November 21.
