Maxxxine star Mia Goth jumps from Marvel's Blade to Star Wars: Starfighter

The Pearl and Infinity Pool actress will play one of the bad guys in Shawn Levy's 2027 Star Wars movie, Starfighter, opposite star Ryan Gosling

Mia Goth has joined the Empire. Or, at least, something quite like it.

The Maxxxine and Pearl star has signed on to co-star alongside Ryan Gosling in Star Wars: Starfighter, Shawn Levy’s standalone Star Wars movie that’s currently in pre-production ahead of a fall 2025 shoot. While she won’t be a member of the Empire per se — the movie is set after the events of Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, so technically there is neither an Empire nor First Order for her to belong to — she will be one of the bad guys in the movie, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

THR also reports that Goth has taken the role that was originally rumored to be played by Academy Award winner Mikey Madison. The role sees Goth take on her first Disney franchise, although she had previously been announced to be in Marvel Studios’ stalled Blade movie. She’ll next appear on screens in Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein movie for Netflix.

Starfighter was announced at this year’s Star Wars Celebration in Tokyo; set five years after The Rise of Skywalker, it’ll be the first official continuation of Star Wars canon past the end of the Skywalker Saga, coming ahead of the previously announced New Jedi Order movie starring Daisy Ridley, which has hit multiple snags in development.

The movie will be released May 28, 2027, almost 50 years to the day after the original movie hit theaters. (That happened May 25, 1977.)
