Two of the current Star Trek TV series will crossover in 2023 - one animated, one live action. In the upcoming second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, Lower Decks' Ensign Beckett Mariner (Tawny Newsome) and Ensign Brad Boimler (Jack Quaid) will appear in a hybrid live-action/animated episode.

ANd it's directed by Will Riker himself, Star Trek: The Next Generation actor/director Jonathan Frakes.

News of the crossover was announced midway through the Star Trek Universe panel at Comic-Con International: San Diego, when Newsome and Quaid made a surprise appearance during Anson Mount's segment of the panel.

An interesting wrinkle to this is that while Strange New Worlds takes place in the year 2259, while Lower Decks takes place decades later in 2380. Of course, time travel is always an option.

The second season of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds is anticipated to debut in 2023. The Lower Decks crossover episode is planned as the second episode of the season.
