Is TRUFF's $40 Star Wars hot sauce worth it?

Here's what we think about TRUFF's Star Wars Dark Side Hot Sauce

Last week, TRUFF announced that they were launching a brand-new Star Wars themed hot sauce called Star Wars Dark Side Hot Sauce. Mixing ghost peppers and the company's signature ingredient of truffles, the sauce was marketed as TRUFF's hottest sauce yet.

But at a $39.99 price point, is this latest Star Wars crossover worth it? Popverse got our hands on an early box of TRUFF's newest product, and here's what we think.

Is TRUFF's Star Wars hot sauce good?

I certainly liked TRUFF's Star Wars hot sauce. Like the TRUFF Original Hot Sauce, it's a thick, bright orange salty hot sauce with a strong truffle flavor throughout. Because it has such a strong truffle taste, this hot sauce would probably work best on something heavier like a pizza or grilled cheese as opposed to tacos or pasta, where I think it might overwhelm a bit. This is definitely not your neutral dab-it-on-everything sauce, but it is nice.

How hot is TRUFF's Star Wars hot sauce?

While TRUFF's hot sauce is certainly hot, it's definitely not on the novelty-level hot side. I am someone who likes a bit a hot sauce on nearly everything I eat, but I'm by no means a Hardcore Hot Sauce partaker (anything with multiple exclamation points or skeletons on the label is a bit much for me). Though TRUFF's Star Wars sauce does pack a punch and is quite spicy, my guess is that if you like using hot sauce in general, this one wont be too hot for you.

Is TRUFF's Star Wars hot sauce worth the price?

Your mileage is probably going to vary here. Is TRUFF's Star Wars hot sauce actually 40 bucks worth of hot sauce? No - especially when you consider that the original TRUFF sauce can be found for $15 for the same 6oz sized bottle. But, this sauce does have a nice novelty cap in the shape of Darth Vader's helmet, and it comes in what I'd consider fairly premium packaging, with a large and well-made box with foil-raised printing.

If you're a Star Wars and hot sauce diehard, it's not the worst purchase in the world, but it's definitely more in the collectible/novelty category than the hot sauce category at that point. My guess is that most purchasers of this sauce will have the plan to gift it, and what Star Wars/hot sauce fan wouldn't be happy to recieve some Darth Vader hot sauce as a gift?

TRUFF's Star Wars Dark Side Hot Sauce will launch May 1st and is currently available for pre-order through IGN.
