The Marvels might be a central piece of the MCU's Multiverse Saga, teases director

The movie will answer a dangling Ms. Marvel mystery and, in the process, maybe reveal more about the future of the MCU...

If you finished the Disney+ Ms. Marvel show and thought to yourself, “Wait: we never actually leaned about the origins of that bangle, even though it was so important to the whole story,” guess what? That wasn’t an accident — and all will be revealed in The Marvels later this year.

Talking to Total Film Magazine, The Marvels director Nia DaCosta said that the bangle, and it’s missing partner, which it turns out belongs to the movie’s villain, Dar-Benn, are at the center of the story of the entire film. "In Ms. Marvel, we learned that the bangle, paired with some other form of power, can force a temporary hole in space and time to lead to somewhere else," she said. "With the power of both bangles, more is definitely possible. And we see the culmination of that over the course of this movie. It definitely leads to plentiful opportunities for the future of the MCU, whatever the Avengers and Secret Wars teams may want to do with them."

It’s worth bearing in mind that we already know that the future of the MCU includes other temporary holes in space and time that connect to something else… namely, incursions, where rips in the multiverse bring Earths together to share share the same physical space, as explained in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. What if Ms. Marvel’s bangle is the key to ending the threat of incursions in some way…? And what if that bangle — and its counterpart — end up in the wrong hands?

All of that is, of course, speculation at this point. What might be a safer thing to say is that it’s almost guaranteed by DaCosta’s comments — and specifically, the mention of “whatever the Avengers and Secret Wars teams may want to do with” the bangles — that The Marvels is going to be an important building block in the current central storyline of the MCU when it arrives in theaters this November.

The Marvels will be released November 10. Keep track of the upcoming superhero movie release dates via our handy-dandy guide.
