Harrison Ford has been an archeologist, a captain, President of the United States (twice), and a cartoon dog. Let's be real: Ford has had his fair share of Hollywood projects, but Apple TV+’s Shrinking is some of the most fun he’s ever had. The iconic actor plays Dr. Paul Roades, a therapist struggling with Parkinson’s Disease. Although Ford’s inclusion gives the streaming comedy star power, the actor says it’s a true ensemble effort.
“Shrinking is an ensemble effort,” Harrison Ford declared during a recent THR Comedy Actor Roundtable.“It’s so much. It’s such a pleasure. I’ve had similar experiences, but working in television with the same group of people over a period of time, it becomes more than just an ensemble experience. It becomes a community, and you have these common experiences and it’s real glue.”
He continued, “It really helps hold the whole thing together. And I really enjoy the relationships that I have with these people and the other actors, and the production staff, and the writers. It really feels like a community.”
One of the things Ford loves about Shrinking is how he’s experiencing Dr. Roades journey along with the audience. He has no idea where the series is going, or how it will end, and that’s just the way he likes it.
“I don’t want a nice bow at the end. One of the great pleasures of doing this is I don’t have all the scripts for a season. I don’t have the next episode and I’m playing a guy with Parkinson’s. I don’t know my fate. I don’t know what’s going to happen next. Oh shit, that’s like life. That’s like real life. That’s kind of cool,” Ford said. “And I’m so supported by the writers and I know that they’re going to take care of it. I can really just enjoy it. You go into a scene and you don’t know whether you’re going to laugh or cry, and it doesn’t matter. It doesn’t matter as long as it’s real.”
Shrinking is currently streaming on Apple TV+.
