Grace Park was just as shocked as fans to learn Boomer was a Cylon in Battlestar Galactica

Grace Park didn’t know Boomer was a Cylon until it happened — and that makes the twist even better.

Sometimes a television series gives you a plot twist that you never see coming. For the 2004 Battlestar Galactica television series, it was the revelation that Boomer was a Cylon. This was a departure from the original 1978 show, where the character was an ace pilot (and male).

Not only was Boomer a Cylon, but she was also a sleeper agent who was unaware of her true nature. In a way, things were the same for the actress too, because she was unaware of Boomer’s true nature until she read the script. As Grace Park recalls, she was just as shocked as the audience was.

“I was definitely confused,” Grace Park says during a Battlestar Galactica spotlight panel at Space Con 2025. “I thought there was a mistake, because I didn’t realize that she was a Cylon either. And then later I felt bad that they made my character a Cylon, because somehow, they had no other choice. I was a really confused young actor, but very grateful.”

It just goes to show you that sometimes a plot twist is so big that even the actors are taken by surprise.

Here's how to watch the Battlestar Galactica TV series and movies in order.
