Battlestar Galactica dialogue remains a mystery to its core cast even decades later, admits Starbuck herself, Katee Sackhoff
Battlestar Galactica’s Katee Sackhoff recalls the confusion she felt about some of her character’s dialogue

It’s been over two decades since Katee Sackhoff was first cast as Kara Thrace in Battlestar Galactica, and she still has no idea what some of her lines mean.
The actress couldn’t always wrap her head around the science fiction terminology, but she did her best to deliver the lines in a convincing manner. Even if she had no idea what she was saying. “There was a line I did during Battlestar Galactica that I couldn’t forget, because I couldn’t remember,” Sackhoff says during a panel at Dragon Con 2025. “That line is, ‘We’ve got violet decompressions all along the port flight pod.’ And I had no idea what that meant, but by golly, I said it.”
However, she’s gotten better at understanding crazy science fiction dialogue since. Sackhoff currently appears in Star Wars: The Mandalorian as Bo-Katan, where she finds she has an easier time with the script. “When we were shooting a scene for The Mandalorian, I had to say, ‘Pirate King Gorian Shard is captaining a Cumulus Class Corsair carrying a complement of snubfighters.’ And I understand what that means.”
If it makes her feel any better, both Mark Hamill and Harrison Ford had trouble with some of George Lucas’s original Star Wars dialogue. If Sackhoff ever meets up with them, then they’ll have something fun to talk about.
