Brad Pitt and David Fincher are back together again, but this time, it isn't a Chuck Palahniuk story they're adapting. No, this one comes from the mind of Quentin Tarantino - it's called The Adventures of Cliff Booth, and it's a spinoff of his film Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood. But what's interesting is the reason why Fincher will be taking on the role of director - not because of the Se7en director's history with Pitt, but because Tarantino didn't want to do it himself.
The news comes straight from the mouth of Pitt himself, who spoke to Deadline while on the red carpet for his upcoming film F1.
"This is something Quentin [Tarantino] wrote," says the Inglorious Bastards star, "It’s an episode, not really a sequel, of the character from Once Upon A Time. He didn’t want to direct it at this point, [...] our friend David Fincher stepped in to direct it. We're doing that for Netflix, we're gonna start in July. Should be really fun."
Two things to pull out of this - first, Pitt does not mention why Quentin Tarantino does not want to direct The Adventures of Cliff Booth. This is on the internet so we expect speculation to run wild as to the Pulp Fiction director's decision, but anyone claiming to know why this is the case is either A.) more informed than us or B.) full of it.
But the second thing to pull out is that Pitt says that Tarantino doesn't want to direct the series "at this point." Does that mean that at some point down the line, Tarantino will take over for Fincher? That's just us speculating - quite hypocritically, I might add - but it's at least interesting that Pitt would bring that up unprompted.
As of this writing, no release date has been set by Netflix for The Advnetures of Cliff Booth, F1 races into theaters June 27.
Fade to credits, then a pop-up of what to watch read next - just like Netflix:
