CW's Smallville catering was full of candy & cheese, but the bosses would sometimes punish them and take it away

Candy makes everything better, no matter how old you get. Whether you’re a toddler or an actor on a successful superhero drama, snack time is one of the best times of the day.

This was especially true for the cast of the WB superhero drama Smallville. Long hours of filming could get stressful, but Warner Bros. Television made sure the cast had something to look forward to – candy!

“We had candy trays and cheese trays,” Erica Durance recalls during a panel at Comic Con Revolution. “So, like small children that needed to behave, they would kind of bring out things for us to munch. We would all be in a coma and be a little cranky but then we knew candies were coming. Close to the end of the day we would get cheese.”

However, there were times when the excitement over candy time would get in the way of filming, so a director had to do the unthinkable and take away the treats.

“I remember one time one of our directors, we were running behind, it was late, and it was time for that candy tray to come out. I remember him jumping in front of the guy with the candy tray,” Tom Welling says.

The director then told the cast that now wasn’t the time for candy and sent the tray away. Welling didn’t share the name of this director, but whoever he is, he’s wrong. It’s always the right time for candy.
