Of course John Cena wouldn't turn down being a MCU hero, but he'd rather open the forbidden door to a DC/Marvel crossover as Peacemaker

John Cena wants to see Peacemaker visit the Marvel Cinematic Universe

Will we ever see a Marvel and DC crossover on film? John Cena hopes so.

The actor, who plays Peacemaker in James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Universe, was recently asked if he would ever take an MCU role. Cena says he’s up for it, but his real hope is a Marvel/DC team-up movie.

“I don’t know who goes to these conventions, but if anybody in the MCU is in the room, I hope they heard that question and heard what I heard, and ‘Man, we’d like to see John Cena as a Marvel superhero,’” Cena jokes during a panel at Fan Expo Dallas 2025. “I know we all love a good rivalry right? Here’s what I know about comics and superheroes. They run parallel to sports entertainment fans. The fandom and the passion that I see in the superhero universe, whether it’s DC or Marvel, reminds me of passionate WWE fans.”

“Here is my vision. Here is my vision for the future. Everyone plays nice in the same sandbox. I would love Iron Man to shake hands with Superman. I would love to see all superheroes across all platforms be involved in a universe. So, if that happens and I get my wish as a member of DC, I would essentially walk into the MCU.”

Cena acknowledges that it’s all above his pay grade, but he hopes the day will come when the big franchises can come together on film.

“I don’t write the checks and make the parts, so right now my answer has got to be no. But I hope there is a world where I see all these passionate people come for comics and superheroes. I hope we can have different debates, because it will just give us more stories to tell, and more creativity. I know I’m going to get punched in the face by critics for saying this, but my long-term vision is that we can tell stories with characters from both sides of the fence. Can’t we all just get along and make some good comic books and stories?”

Peacemaker season two premieres August 21 on HBO Max. If you’ve seen the teaser, then you know that Peacemaker already has access to other dimensions. If they ever decide to crossover with the MCU, they have the perfect plot device right there.
