After 'dying,' Dexter is “liberated” from the past in the new Resurrection series, says Michael C. Hall

Dexter's "death" in the finale of Dexter: New Blood has given him the chance to start afresh in Dexter: Resurrection, out this month

Dexter Morgan has managed to elude many things - even death. When the character was seemingly killed in the finale of Dexter: New Blood, fans were understandably distraught. Luckily for us, the serial killer is going to make a full recovery from his "fatal" gunshot wound in Dexter: Resurrection.

Bouncing back from the brink of death, however, is nothing easy. Dexter is set to relocate from his digs in Iron Lake, New York, where he's been keeping a low profile under an alias, to the Big Apple proper. While talking to the Los Angeles Times, series star Michael C. Hall addressed Dexter's apparent demise in New Blood, and what it means for him going forward in Resurrection. “The fact that Dexter didn’t die liberated the character to a degree,” Hall began. “He can’t go back to who he was, but he can reclaim some of the essential magic of who he is. He is not blind to his past, but he’s not dragging it around in the same way. He’s able to let it be.”

In other words, in Dexter: Resurrection, Dexter is unchained from the man he once was. Hall also noted that, "New York is a completely new environment — different climate, different job." And it's hard to see how a change in scenery wouldn't affect Dexter in some way. Maybe this gives him the chance to pick up a New York-specific hobby, because god forbid a man have hobbies.

With Dexter unmoored from the darkness of his past, who knows what the guy will get up to in Resurrection. Either way, we'll get an idea of what's in store for him when Dexter: Resurrection begins streaming on Paramount+ Premium on July 11.
