Dropout's Sam Reich reveals Game Changer season 9 will film this fall, has "short list" of episode ideas

From 15 ideas of how to torture his players, Dropout's Sam Reich will cut down to a list of 10. Maybe because 5 of them are too nice?

I won't pretend comedy-streamer Dropout invented the postmodern game show, but when it comes to the Sam Reich-hosted Game Changer, they've certainly got one of the best examples being made today. Game Changer constantly challenges what we think of when it comes to the game show format. and as such, has amassed a huge swath of online fans. If you happen to be one of those fans (like yours truly, reader), then I've got some great news:

We now know when Game Changer season 9 will film.

That info comes directly from Dropout CEO and Game Changer host Reich himself, who recently sat down for a chat with the folks at The Hollywood Reporter. The show, currently airing its season 8, is showing no signs of slowing down, and is already looking into setting up a calendar to film its next episodes.

"We won’t be shooting until October or November," Reich said of season 9, "But I already have the short list of 15 ideas from which we’ll choose 10."

A quick note here: one does have to wonder how many ideas exist even before cutting down to said "short list," and how many of those ideas would have actually wound up with Sam in jail.

Putting that aside for a second; what does this mean for Game Changer's season 9 debut? Well, the THR profile of the show linked above reports that there's about six months of post-production after the episodes are filmed, so even if they started shooting at the earliest point in Reich's estimation, we wouldn't be seeing the host "be here the whole time" again until April of 2027. And while that does feel like a long way away, there are still episodes of season 8 left to air, you greedy bastards, and this schedule would still put season 9 at about the same time period of the current season, which debuted in May of 2026.

All that to say, of course, none of this accounts for any surprise episodes that even Reich himself isn't aware of. You never know what Brennan Lee Mulligan is plotting, after all.

Game Changer season 8 is currently airing on Dropout.tv.
