Hazbin Hotel star Amir Talai has an amazing theory for why the characters look the way they do in Hell

For Alastor actor Amir Talai, the characters of Hazbin Hotel resemble their own personal "curse"

One of the most recognizable aspects of the Hellaverse are its zany character designs. The appearances of characters in Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss make them instantly recognizable, in addition to posing a significant challenge to cosplayers. But why do each of the characters have such a unique look that's different than what they looked like, presumably, in life? Amir Talai, who plays Alastor in Hazbin Hotel, has a theory.

Speaking on the Joe Vulpis Podcast, Amir Talai shared his personal headcanon for the show. "I think that part of your appearance in Hell is determined by some sort of curse," Talai began. "If you're sent to hell, the people who make Hell run decide what would torture this person. And that is part of how you look."

"So for example, Alastor, very handsome, very debonair, cared about his appearance. Kind of a badass, the way he killed people... He gets killed in this embarrassing way, where it wasn't even cool how he died. He got killed because they thought he was a deer. And so now, he looks like a deer. It's almost like a daily reminder of like, 'Oh, you think you're cool? You died because they thought you were a deer.'"

Talai goes on to explain how there's something similar at work with how Vox appears on the show. "Vox is like, 'I'm the cool TV man, and they're gonna see my face on every TV screen.' Nope, they're just going to see a TV screen," Talai concluded.

Talai's headcanon for Hazbin Hotel is some real galaxy brain thinking that I'm sure has you re-evaluating why characters look the way they do on the show now. The best headcanons are the ones that provide food for thought.
