#ReleaseTheHorvitzCut: The greatest Hazbin Hotel impressionist is the series voice director Richard Horvitz

At San Deigo Comic Con '25, Hellaverse fans got to cheer on favorites like VivziePop and Brandon Rogers. But they were cheering on Richard Horvitz, who voices Moxxie and, behind the scenes, everybody else

If you ask the average fan of the Hellaverse - that is, raunchy animated musical comedies Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss - who the MVP of the show is, you're likely to get a host of answers. One option is creator VivziePop, AKA Vivienne Medrano, or maybe it's Brandon Rogers, the impish lead of Helluva Boss who has the tendency to make comic con panels quite interesting. But speaking at a comic con panel (the San Diego Comic Con 2025 Hellaverse panel, to be exact), it seems the cast has one name that they consider to be at the top of the list of contenders

That would be Richard Horvitz, who not only plays the character of Moxxie in Helluva Boss, but is also the voice director for both shows. Oh, and he's also the guy you might remember doing the voice for none other than Invader Zim.

The Hazbin Hotel/Helluva Boss panel at SDCC '25 featured creator Vivienne Medrano, cast members Erika Henningsen, Amir Talai, Brandon Rogers, and of course, Richard Horvitz himself. And though it was tough to see him from all the way in the back of the Hilton Bayfront's Indigo Ballroom, we have to imagine that Horvitz's ears were getting pretty red once the cast got to talking to him.

"Richard reads every single character with us," said Henningsen, the voice of Hazbin lead Charlie Morningstar, "And if we have a big two-hander scene that is dramatic or a fight, instead of doing one line at a time, he says, 'Why don't we do the full scene?' He's recording remotely, so he’s on a screen - we’re not even in the same room together - and Richard is so present in the room as a scene partner, it is wild."

"You would not get the performances you would get from the voice cast," Henningsen continued, "If you didn't have somebody who, no matter what ungodly hour of the day it is in California when we're recording in New York, he is Dropped In. He's like, 'This is the scene where that shit goes down, and we're going to go there.' It's really remarkable, because if you're an actor, your reader sometimes will give you nothing. And not only is Richard directing at the same time, he's acting in a scene with us, doing the voices for like 12 different characters a session. It's wild."

"I've said before," interjects Rogers, "Somewhere out there there is a cut of both these shows in which Richard Horvitz voices every single character."

This led panel moderator Morgana Ignis to suggest folks start a "#ReleaseTheHorvitzCut" hashtag, and considering that she brought it up at a comic con, well, don't be surprised if that doesn't just just kick off a movement. Whether she did or not, though, Horvitz himself was clearly honored by the recognition.

"Now I'm gonna cry," concluded the voice acting legend.

Helluva Boss seasons 1 and 2 come to Prime Video September 10. Hazbin Hotel season 2 arrives October 29.
