Helluva Boss changed the way the industry saw me, says Sallie May actor Morgana Ignis

It wasn't until Morgana Ignis found success as Sallie May on Helluva Boss that the entertainment industry started giving her the roles she'd wanted all along

Morgana Ignis would go to a diner with friends to complain about the entertainment industry. The actor explained at Fan Expo Chicago 2025 that the industry as a whole did not seem to have a place for her until her breakout role as the imp demon Sallie May on Helluva Boss.

"On a deeper emotional level, I think I found who my audience is on this show more than anything else," she told the crowd. "I had a very different career before this show. I played very different types of characters. I was mostly under prosthetics and makeup in horror films playing non-human characters, which was very cool stuff. But it didn't creatively and emotionally fulfill me in the way I wanted it to as an actress."

Sallie May's storyline on the YouTube hit Helluva Boss, now available on Prime Video, introduced her to an audience that wants to see her in more things, Ignis said.

"As a weird, queer, alternative, lesbian, trans actress, you are told by the industry that you do not fit a box that is marketable, that is sellable," she said. "You are not the performer who is going to have roles people are going to pay to see. When this character came along, I got more roles based on the success of Sallie, not just based on the performance but also because it turns out a lot of people do want characters like this and they want you to play those."

Everything role she's landed since she credits to her success on Helluva Boss.

"I have two shows that just launched last month. I'm super excited about them," she enthused. "It really is all of you. It really is about discovering an audience is the reason I want to make this stuff and the people I want to act for."

Helluva Boss season 1 is streaming on Prime Video now.
