The wait is over, Stephen King fans. After months of wondering, we finally know the It: Welcome to Derry release date, which was revealed by streaming host HBO Max via a social media post. And as you can imagine, it was an announcement that sent the assembled horror hounds of the internet screaming.

Er, in a happy way.

It: Welcome to Derry debuts on HBO Max October 26. In case you aren’t already aware, the series will serve as both a prequel to Andy Muschietti’s two-part movie adaptation of Stephen King’s seminal 1986 horror novel. Muschietti himself is returning to direct two episodes of the series, and Pennywise actor Bill Skarsgård will be joining him.

The plot of It: Welcome to Derry will take viewers back to the 1960s, 27 years before the events of It: Chapter One occurred. As folks familiar with the It novel already know, that’s in accordance with Pennywise’s murder cycle - or I should say, feeding schedule, as the nature of his cosmic terror is to feed on fear in those increments. Muschietti has already confirmed that later chapters of the series will continue to take viewers back in time in the history of titular cursed town Derry, Maine.

Take us far back as you want, Andy. We’re here for it all.

It: Welcome to Derry debuts on HBO Max October 26. It: Chapter One and Chapter Two are streaming there now.

Here's how to watch the IT movies & TV series in order.

Grant DeArmitt

Grant DeArmitt: Grant DeArmitt (he/him) likes horror, comics, and the unholy union of the two. In the past, and despite their better judgment, he has written for Nightmare on Film Street and Newsarama. He lives in Brooklyn with his partner, Kingsley, and corgi, Legs.
