Marvel’s Jeremy Renner binged History’s Alone after his snowplow accident

Jeremy Renner passed the time during his snowplow accident recovery by binging the History series Alone

In 2023 Jeremy Renner was injured in a snowplow accident. While the actor has done a lot of healing in the past two years, the road to recovery is a long way. Renner credits his family and friends with helping him get back on his feet after the accident left him immobile for months.

When you’re bedridden and recovering from an accident, you have to find ways to pass the time. For Renner, this meant binging the History series Alone. “Anybody watch the show Alone? It’s that survival show,” Renner says during a panel at Florida Supercon 2025.

Alone is a reality show that airs on History. The series follows 10 individuals who attempt to survive in the wilderness with minimal resources and no contact with the outside world (except for emergencies).

“It’s not this Survivor show, it’s not a contest thing, but it’s more like living out in the middle of nowhere, and you get like ten items. It’s interesting, even when you’re really good at it, most people have to leave the show because you’re alone.”

Renner credits the series with entertaining him during his recovery, which helped the process go faster. “I don’t know if I watched because recovery is the loneliest place. I think anybody here that’s been through some obstacles, it could be mental suffering, it’s a very lonely business. I don’t know if anybody here watched it because of that. I had nothing else to do, I was laying flat on my back for a while with a big rubber band as my exercise machine [laughs].”

Don’t let anyone tell you that binge-watching television isn’t self-care.
