Marvel adds a new hero is a dude who wants a job and to eat a hamburger, says Wonder Man star

The meta-textual Marvel Television show will debut on Disney+ January 2026

Yahya Abdul-Mateen II is no stranger to superpowered fantasy, having played Doctor Manhattan in HBO’s (underrated, wonderful) Watchmen miniseries and Black Manta in DC Studios' most successful movie to date, Aquaman — but his new role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe lets him play a very different kind of character altogether.

“I played a dude who was very serious in the DC Universe” he joked about his choice to play Simon Williams in the meta-comedy about remaking a superhero movie inside the MCU. “I want to play a dude who can eat a hamburger.”

Williams is certainly that kind of dude — he’s also an actor who really, definitely wants his big break, and is willing to do anything… including work with Ben Kingsley’s Trevor Slattery… to make that happen. (You can see the trailer for yourself below to see how well that’s going to work out.)

”It’s weird man, because I, as an actor — there is so much that goes into it. There’s vulnerability, there’s ego, there’s hopes and dreams, there’s ambition, there’s a lonely road, and as Simon Williams I get to walk that fine line,” Abdul-Mateen told the audience. Plus, you know, it’s inside the MCU, so there’s going to be superpowers and meta-textual hijinks.

Wonder Man begins on Disney+ January 27, 2026. Watch the trailer below.
