Is Charlie Cox's Daredevil the MCU's anchor being? The actor talks about outpacing Robert Downey Jr.'s Iron Man for Marvel Studios screentime

Is Daredevil the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s true anchor being? Charlie Cox notes that he’s logged more hours than Robert Downey Jr.

Who is the anchor being of the MCU?

The concept, which was introduced in Deadpool & Wolverine, states that an individual is so important to their universe that it would gradually cease to exist without them. According to the movie, Logan was this for 20th Century Fox’s X-Men universe. But who is the anchor being of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?

Iron Man’s importance can’t be overstated, but comic creator (and frequent panel moderator) Victor Dandridge makes a good case for Daredevil.

“[Robert Downey Jr.] only clocked 13 hours as Iron Man, and you’ve got over 30 hours as Daredevil. Can we make the argument that you’re the anchor being of the MCU,” Dandridge asks Charlie Cox during a Fan Expo Cleveland panel.

“First of all, those are 13 pretty strong hours. Also, is it 30? I think I had more than that,” Cox answers.

Cox did some quick math to try to determine his onscreen hours. “I had more than Netflix. I think you undersold me. There are 39 plus Defenders. We’re into the 40s,” Cox calculates.

“Anchor being. Way more important than Tony Stark. That’s all I’m saying,” Dandridge replies.

Dandridge does have a point. Sure, Iron Man saved all of reality from Thanos, but Daredevil is the glue that holds the MCU together. He saved Peter Parker from a brick, he gave She-Hulk the night of her life, and he was so important that he was restored to canon after being exiled from continuity.

Anchor being indeed.
