The Marvel Cinematic Universe is full of many villains, but few are as complicated and nuanced as Wilson Fisk. He’s not an alien conqueror or cosmic behemoth, he’s simply a broken man seeking power, retribution... oh, and love. If you’ve seen Daredevil: Born Again, then you know that Fisk is now the Mayor of New York City, a role which has given the character new challenges to overcome.
Does Wilson Fisk see himself as a villain, or as someone who does the wrong thing for the right reasons? Vincent D’Onofrio, who plays Fisk, has some ideas.
“It’s a bit of both,” D’Onofrio said during a panel at Dragon Con 2025. “Villains keep you from getting bored when acting. There’s always other stuff you have to add and you can’t just be yourself completely. You can be yourself, but you add all these bizarre things to it.”
Before you read too much into D'Onofio's comments, bear in mind that he added, “I would say that is romanticizing how much fun it is to play a character like that. I would say I try to think of villains that way. A good part is a good part. When it’s written really well, you’re just dying to play it.”
Daredevil: Born Again season two premieres on Disney+ in March 2026.
