Fans of the World’s Finest Super-Heroes won’t have to wait until San Diego Comic-Con — or even the big screen release of Supergirl! — to find out what’s lying ahead for DC Studios; DC and Warner Bros. Animation has announced a packed slate of programming for June’s Annecy International Animation Festival, including appearances by creators of everything from Creature Commandos to Mister Miracle and Starfire… oh, and the world premiere of a new Batman movie, as well.
The premiere of Batman: Knightfall Part 1: Knightfall (Yes, that’s really the title) is just one of the many Warner Bros. Animation events taking place at this year’s 50th anniversary event, which runs June 21 through June 27 in Annecy, France; based on the 1990s comic book storyline by creators including Doug Moench, Chuck Dixon, Alan Grant, and Dennis O’Neill (amongst many others), the movie is described by WB Animation and DC as the first film in “a multi-part animated event.”
WB Animation and DC are also teaming up for the World’s Finest Animation: DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation Showcase panel at the show, which will have an embarrassment of talent present, including DC Studios co-chairman Peter Safran, Warner Bros. Animation president Sam Register, Tom King (co-creator and executive producer, Mister Miracle), Rick Morales (executive producer of Creature Commandos), Jake Wyatt (showrunner and executive producer of both My Adventures with Superman and My Adventures with Green Lantern), Josie Campbell (executive producer of Starfire!), and Matt Beans (executive producer of DC Super Powers). Per the studios, the panel will include “first looks and creative insights into the next era of DC animation.”
Let’s just remember for a second that Creature Commandos is canon with the live action DC Studios projects, meaning that there’s every possibility we might get a glimpse of potential plots for a second season that’s likely to come ahead of 2027’s Man of Tomorrow movie…
Even beyond the DC elements, WB Animation has more at the week-long festival, including a special panel devoted to its upcoming Cartoon Network series based on Jillian Tamaki’s award-winning graphic novel SuperMutant Magic Academy. “Annecy continues to be one of the most important global gatherings for the animation community, celebrating the artistry and innovation that move our industry forward. From expanding the next era of DC animation with our partners at DC Studios to showcasing original voices across our studios, our programming this year reflects the range, ambition, and creative momentum driving everything we do,” Sam Register said in a statement about the studio’s plans. “We can't wait to share the work our artists have been building with an audience that truly appreciates the craft."
Annecy International Animation Festival 2026 runs June 21 through June 27.
