Is it possible to find love in a world full of Demogorgons and Mind Flyers?
That’s what Joyce Bryers and Jim Hopper are trying to find out. The Stranger Things couple have gone through plenty of trials and tribulations throughout the show’s first four seasons. Don’t expect things to get easier for them, because Jim Hopper actor David Harbour promises that the fifth and final season will be a big one.
“There were a lot of character arcs that we wanted to complete and make sure it was a very satisfying payoff for, and one of those was of course, about Hopper and Joyce,” Harbour says during a panel at Tampa Bay Comic Convention. “Right from that first season, they had a weird relationship. They dated in high school and lost touch with each other, they each got married to different people, and had terrible marriages, and came back together and begrudgingly had this kind of tension between them where they clearly loved each other but also couldn’t stand each other.”
“I think that season five, in terms of Hopper’s storyline, the biggest storylines for Hopper are going to be the Joyce piece, which is obviously very big, People loved it, calling it Jopper. It’s very sweet to have young kids care about a middle-aged couple.”
Harbour stated that the other big storyline for his character would involve his fatherly relationship with Eleven. Later in the panel, he said that his favorite Hopper/Joyce scene was one that the audience hadn’t seen yet.
“I can’t really choose a scene that I think is my favorite, except there is a scene in season five. There was one scene in particular that I really did enjoy shooting.”
Stranger Things season five premieres November 26 on Netflix.
