The Addams Family is one of the most iconic names in horror, and this is something that Netflix is leaning into for season 2 of their hit series, Wednesday. Starring Jenna Ortega, Wednesday has revitalized the Addams Family mythos for a new generation of viewers. And of course, you can't have a show led by Wednesday Addams without the rest of her macabre family appearing alongside her.
A recent article on Netflix's Tudum reveals that season 2 of Wednesday is delving more into the Addams family dynamics. It makes note that Pugsley Addams will be entering "the supernatural fray that is Nevermore Academy as a student" in season 2 of the show. He'll also be bringing his electricity-based powers with him. And Pugsley isn't the only one joining Wednesday on campus - Morticia is too. Tudum writes, "Wednesday’s mom has accepted an important philanthropic position at Nevermore, putting her right in her daughter’s backyard." Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones says that “Morticia and Wednesday’s relationship lends itself to times of separation. The family being more associated with Nevermore is a little bit of a thorn in Wednesday’s side.” As it would be for any teenager.
In addition, Joanna Lumley is playing Grandmama Hester Frump, Morticia's mother. The co-creator of Wednesday, Alfred Gough, described Wednesday and her grandmother's relationship as, “Wednesday and Hester get along great. Other than Fester, her Grandmama is probably Wednesday's favorite person and the one she feels the most kinship with. Hester is also somebody Wednesday can use against her mother. It’s a delicious family triangle to set up.” We love a little bit of drama.
Of course, it wouldn't be a show about Wednesday if we didn't have Fred Armisen's portrayal of Uncle Fester. Addressing his role in season 2, Armisen said, “In season 2, you get to spend more time with Fester. You see that he is helpful. He really does put himself in what you would think is harm’s way to help Wednesday. He really makes it his business to help Wednesday out.” I would hope my nieces and nephews would say the same about me.
Wednesday season 2, part 1 begins streaming on August 6 on Netflix.
