If you run into Outlander star Charles Vandervaart at a Magic: The Gathering tournament, he just revealed which deck is his "financial sink"

The actor is working on a project to have a mono-deck of every color, but one Magic: The Gathering deck is where he puts all his money.

One thing that you might not guess about making a TV show like Outlander is that it involves a lot of waiting around for your next scene, so it is important to have a hobby to occupy your time. For Charles Vandervaart, who joined the Outlander cast in season seven, that means indulging in one of our favorite – and most expensive – pastimes; Magic: The Gathering. If you end up seeing the actor at an upcoming Magic tournament, he’s let us all know which decks he might whip out against you.

“So my decks,” Charles Vandervaart told our very own Ashley V. Robinson at C2E2 earlier this year.

“I have an Imodane and The Pyrohammer. It’s a mono-red deck. That’s kind of my pet deck. That’s the one that I put all my money into. It’s my financial sink.”

However, that isn’t the only deck that Vandervaart has on the go. In fact, he’s been working on a little project that he thinks will take a long time to complete. He’s also got a Reality Chip mono-blue deck and a Ghalta mono-green deck. But he isn’t stopping there. “I want to get a deck for every color,” he explained during the interview, which was meant to be about his role in Outlander but quickly descended into two adorable nerds talking about Magic: The Gathering (which is how most conversations with us end up.

“I want to get a deck of each color. I want a mono-color deck of each color. So I have three of them – I want five. I’m going slow, though. This feels like a lifetime kind of goal so I don’t want to rush it. I already have three.”

It is important to have goals in life, after all.
