Outlander star Charles Vandervaart admits he geeks out over meeting the Lord of the Rings cast (just like the rest of us)
Honestly, if we ran into Elijah Wood and Andy Serkis just hanging out, we'd probably react the exact same.

Just because someone is a celebrity doesn’t mean that they don’t have their own fandoms that they are obsessed with, which can make for some wholesome and fun moments at conventions as people from different shows and movies mix. Charles Vandervaart, one of the stars of the Outlander series, has admitted to being a bit star-struck when he found himself mingling with the stars of Lord of the Rings at C2E2 and, honestly, we can’t blame him.
“I’ve only really done Outlander-esque conventions [before],” Charles Vandervaart explained to Popverse’s own Ashley V. Robinson at C2E2 2025. “Nothing with like a kind of broader fandom.” This meant it was his first time seeing the full scope of cosplay on offer at a huge event like C2E2, but it also meant that he found himself mingling in the back room with some of his own favorite actors.
“I’m usually super calm and collected but I’m in the green room and Elijah Wood and Andy Serkis walk in,” he said. “And I’m just like, ‘Uh… uh… uh!’ and like I forgot how to be a person.”
We’d like to mention that this is a perfectly valid reaction to seeing either of these two Lord of the Rings stars up close. In fact, we’d say that Vandervaart did better than we would have in the same situation. “I did muster up the courage – I couldn’t do it on the first day, but on the second day, I mustered up the courage to say hi to both of them. Just very briefly.”
