As is the nature with comic book media these days, fans are already speculating on a possible Peacemaker season 3 days before season 2 makes its HBO Max debut. And after a recent comment by Peacemaker creator and DC Studios head James Gunn, we expect to see that speculation ramp up. 

The comment came from a red carpet interview Gunn did with ExtraTV. Asked about the future of the DCU, Gunn brought up (somewhat unprompted, we should say) that there may be more places in the new DCU for John Cena's Peacemaker. 

"This is part of the Tighty Whitey trilogy," Gunn said of the show's second season, "It's known as that. Between The Suicide Squad, Peacemaker season 1, and Peacemaker season 2. Are we going to make it a quadrilogy? Probably. We'll see."

Let's be completely honest here - this is absolutely not a confirmation of Peacemaker season 3. However, it's enough to get us at least speculating that John Cena's Peacemaker will have more stories to tell once the second season of this show wraps. After all, we already know that Gunn has been hoping to bring back Peacemaker's Suicide Squad costar Bloodsport sometime in the future of the DCU; would it be so wild to consider that Gunn is planning on doing more with the rest of the cast of Suicide Squad?

Just saying, we wouldn't say no to an animated Chris Smith going toe-to-toe with those Creature Commandos one day.

Peacemaker season 2 debuts on HBO Max August 21.
