James Gunn is actively looking to bring back one more The Suicide Squad character, and it's not Harley Quinn
Ahead of the release of Peacemaker season 2, James Gunn has revealed that he'd love to find a place for Idris Elba's Bloodsport within the new DC Universe

The Suicide Squad made the case for why James Gunn and the world of DC Comics were a good fit. The filmmaker put in elements recognizable to longtime DC fans like Starro, the iconic alien villain that the Justice League fought in their first-ever comic book appearance, in addition to cameos from characters like Calendar Man, Double Down, and Kaleidoscope. It was clear right away that Gunn had immense love for the world of DC Comics, which is now guiding his role as co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios.
Now that Gunn has launched the new DC Universe from DC Studios, one question remains: will he bring any characters over from his 2021 Suicide Squad, besides the characters that have been in his Peacemaker show on HBO? At this moment in time, Gunn has one character he’d like to revisit. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, James Gunn unveiled his thoughts on who he'd like to bring back most from his 2021 Suicide Squad film. "I definitely am always looking for a place to put Bloodsport and figuring that out. So we'll see what happens," Gunn said.
Idris Elba played Bloodsport in The Suicide Squad, and was one of the strongest parts of the movie. The way that the film portrayed his ability to turn anything on his person into a lethal weapon, building guns and other things on the fly, was mesmerizing to watch. Bloodsport’s relationship with his troubled teen daughter, played by Storm Reid, also humanized him and gave us a reason to root for him. Because Lord help any father whose teenage daughter sees him as a loser.
So we’ll see where the DC Universe goes with regards to Elba’s Bloodsport! At the moment, there’s no shortage of charming but flawed characters running around the DC Universe (see: everyone in Creature Commandos who didn’t die at the end of the season), but it’s hard not to feel a sense of longing to see Bloodsport at least one more time.
