Peaky Blinders is returning for two 6-part sequel seasons taking place 20 years after the Netflix/BBC original

We know, we know, theres a Peaky Blinders movie on the way first. But then, the Shelby family is heading back to streaming, set against the backdrop of 1953 Britain

Great news for fans of period crime dramas: ahead of its upcoming cinematic debut, Peaky Blinders is officially confirmed to be returning to the TV streaming format, as series creator Steven Knight is once again partnering with Netflix and the BBC for a new chapter in the saga of the Shelby Crime Family. But you should know - when Peaky Blinders comes back, it'll be looking a little bit older, as the new series will be set 20 yeras after the first one's end.

The news comes from Deadline, who reported October 2 that netflix and the BBC have given the order for a Peaky Blinders sequel series to come in two parts - both consisting of six episodes. Creator Knight returns to executive produce the series alongside original star and Oscar-winner Cillian Murphy. While plot details are being pretty well kept under wraps, Deedline did reveal an official logline.

"Britain, 1953," it reads, "After being heavily bombed in WWII, Birmingham is building a better future out of concrete and steel. In a new era of Steven Knight’s Peaky Blinders, the race to own Birmingham’s massive reconstruction project becomes a brutal contest of mythical dimensions. This is a city of unprecedented opportunity and danger: with the Shelby family right at its blood-soaked heart."

I know, it's not much to go off of, but what's interesting in the Deadline article is that the series will apparently "follow on" from the Peaky Blinders movie, which is currently expected to get a 2026 release date. Could it be that by the time we walk out of that theater, flatcaps in hand, we might know a little bit more of what awaits the Shelby family?

I guess only time will take our blinders off. Ironically.

Peaky Blinders is streaming on Netflix now.
